One-Page Resume Templates — fit your experience on a single page

A one-page resume forces the most useful discipline in resume writing: keeping only what matters for the job you want. For students, recent graduates, career changers and anyone with less than about 10 years of relevant experience, one page is usually the right length, and plenty of experienced candidates choose it too.

Any of these 12 templates can hold a one-page resume. Two-column modern designs move short sections like contact details and education into a sidebar, freeing the main column for your experience, while single-column ATS-friendly templates hold a full page of experience once you tune the margins and font size.

The builder shows a live preview as you work, so you can see the moment your resume spills onto a second page.

How to fit your resume on one page

Work on the content first and the design second. Shrinking the font until everything fits only makes a crowded page harder to read.

Cut content first

  • Tailor to the job. Remove roles, projects and bullet points that do not relate to the position you are applying for.
  • Go back 10 to 15 years. Older jobs can be dropped or condensed into a single line.
  • Limit bullet points. Three to five for your current or most relevant role, two or three for earlier ones, each kept to one or two lines.
  • Drop the extras. Replace an objective with a two-line summary, and remove "references available on request".
  • Merge small sections. Combine certifications, languages and tools into one skills section.

Then adjust the design

On the Download tab, three settings recover space without hurting readability:

  • Page margins. Normal margins are 1 inch on every side; Narrow margins are half an inch, which adds noticeable room.
  • Font size. Medium is 11 pt and Small is 10 pt. Avoid Smaller (9 pt) for body text on a resume someone has to read.
  • Template. If a single-column layout runs long, preview the same content in a two-column design, where short sections move into the sidebar. Check the ATS trade-off on our modern templates page first.

Should your resume be one page?

  • One page: students, recent graduates, career changers, and candidates with less than about 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Two pages: experienced professionals with a decade or more of relevant roles, achievements or credentials.
  • More than two: generally only academic CVs and applications that explicitly ask for full detail.

If you do go to two pages, put your strongest material on page one and make sure the second page is at least half full.

One-page resume mistakes to avoid

  • Text or margins so small that the page looks crowded.
  • Cutting your most relevant achievements to keep an older job.
  • Removing all the white space between sections, which makes a resume slower to scan.
  • A skills list that takes up more room than your experience.

One-Page Resume Templates — FAQ

Should my resume be one page?

Aim for one page if you are a student, a recent graduate, changing careers, or have less than about 10 years of relevant experience. Two pages are fine for experienced candidates, as long as every line earns its place.

How do I fit my resume on one page?

Cut roles and bullet points that do not relate to the job, keep each bullet to one or two lines, and merge short sections. Then tighten the design on the Download tab: choose Narrow page margins or a Small font size, and check the preview until everything fits.

Which template fits the most on one page?

Two-column templates move short sections such as contact details and education into a sidebar, which frees the main column for your experience. If you need an ATS-safe layout, stay with a single-column template and tighten margins and font size instead.

What font size should a one-page resume use?

Keep body text between 10 and 12 points. In the builder, Small is 10 pt, Medium is 11 pt and Large is 12 pt. Avoid shrinking below 10 pt just to squeeze more in.

What should I cut first?

Start with an objective statement (a short summary does more), "references available on request", jobs from more than 10 to 15 years ago, and bullet points that repeat the same skill. Then trim your skills list to what the job posting asks for.
